Tips for attending Tertiary to Work

A good career fair gives you the opportunity to find information, connect with employers and make a good impression. Below are some tips to help prepare for the event.

  • Prior to the event, familiarise yourself with the employers attending and research the ones that you are most interested in, or those who are most interested in your degree.

  • What does “research” mean? Look at each employer website and find out what they do, what they offer and why you might like to work with them. If you are feeling stuck, please reach out to your careers service before the fair. They have resources and support which can help you get more familiar with your values, skills and interests and how these influence your career decision making and where you might like to work.

  • Prepare any questions you would like to ask of the employers. This will ensure you are able to make the most of interactions on the day.

  • Employers want to assist you with information about their organisation, what they are offering and the types of students they are looking for. Be friendly and organised, ask questions and engage in conversations.
